Photoshop Quick Tips: Advanced Techniques for UI Design

Photoshop Quick Tips: Advanced Techniques for UI Design As with all creative suites there are many ways to achieve your end result in Photoshop. The difference between these approaches lies in the speed they can be created and modified. After talking to fellow designers I discovered I used many techniques that they were unaware existed, doing things "the hard way" instead. So I made this video screencast to share those techniques with the community. Video As with all creative suites there are many ways to achieve your end result in Photoshop. Photoshop Preferences

Image
In order to get the most performance out of photoshop, you should check out the photoshop preferences. Let’s go ahead and explore the most important settings in the preferences window of photoshop. If you are in a hurry then scroll down and do the stuff that is in Black font in order to increase the performance of Photoshop. Go ahead and open the preferences window. Windows users should go to Edit > Preferences > General or use the keystroke CTRL+K. Mac users should go to Photoshop > Preferences > General or CMD+K. I am using Photoshop CS3 so if you are using a different version of photoshop then your preferences window will probably look different. But don’t worry, most of the settings will be the same though they may exist on different tabs so click around and explore on your own until you get to the settings that this tutorial talks about. If you are using Photoshop CS and above then you should be okay. Just feel your way around. The following is not a

12 tips for conquering Photoshop actions

12 tips for conquering Photoshop actions Do you want to get in on the action? Actions are automated processes that greatly speed up your Photoshop or Photoshop Elements workflow. You can use them for basic image correction or to make beautiful enhancements to your photos. In this post, I will give you the 12 essential tips you need for making actions even easier! (Yes, I know 12 is a hokey number to use for a top 10 list, but I love running actions so much that I couldn’t limit myself to 10!) 1. Always run actions on flattened images. 2. Painting on layer masks? Black conceals and white reveals. 3. Type D to set your colors to default black and white before painting on a layer mask. Type X to switch between foreground and background colors. 4. A layer mask layer has two thumbnails. The thumbnail on the right hand side is the one you want to paint on – click it to activate for painting. The white border around its edge confirms that you’re ready to go! 5.

Head Swapping Photoshop Tutorial for Photographers

Image
To head swap, or not to head swap…. that is the question. This is a question that a lot of photographers are on the fence about. I personally do not do it too often. I like the look of a candid photo, and not a perfect photo that was not there in reality. There are, however, times that I think it has saved me. I think that it’s an important thing to know how to do a head swap in Photoshop, even if you don’t think that you will use it too often. Jodi did a similar tutorial last year on head (eye) swapping to get rid of glare on glasses in Photoshop . Below are two photos. In the first one the little girl is distracted by someone behind me, and in the second, it looks like Dad decided to take a nap. How many photographers can relate to that one? tee-hee! So, I decided to swap the dad’s head in shot number one and put it in shot number two… that way the family is all looking their best. Below, you will see the way that I swapped dad’s head from one image and put it into th

photoshop-Making Holiday Cards In Photoshop

Image
Hello again, today I am going to give you another way to put your Photoshop brushes to use. Since the holidays are coming up, I would like to show an example of a holiday card. To begin open the correct paper size, Go to FILE<> I am using a 5 x 7 page because I want to make a holiday card. Once you pick your size then you need a background color. I already have all my holiday brushes loaded in my brushes pallet, (check out my previous blog postings, to find great links for finding brushes). Choose which color you want your brush to be. You will notice in the brush pallet above that I have several circle brushes; I will be using many of them to achieve my design. When you choose the diameter of your brush (see yellow dot 1, below) you will see the outline of the brush over your paper, adjust your diameter as needed. You will also need to adjust your opacity (see yellow dot 2, below), this will adjust how faded, or hard the color of your brush will appear. Sinc
